Here at PeekABoo PrettyGirl, we LOVE a good juicy story, or even a collection of short-reads to carry with you on the go. Below, we’ve gathered a few of our favorite books and novels that we believe are essential to the growth of all girls, women, and in-betweens!
My favorite book would have to be Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. This book is a great book for young women, especially those in leadership positions or looking to have careers in a male dominated industry. Lean In has taught me to always put your best foot forward and never sell yourself short.
In Words from a Wanderer, Alexandra Elle gives us 58 pages of uplifting, encouraging notes and poems to feed our wandering soul. Words from a Wanderer suggests the wanderers inside of us are not lost, but are still finding their way.
The Drama High Series by L. Divine are my favorite books because the protagonist Jayd reminds me so much of what a high school female is like, including myself. The book Frenemies in particular is about all friendship and exemplifies how the company you keep determines the trouble you meet.
The Mortal Instruments series is a good read for any woman but especially a woman who enjoys an interesting and adventurous read. The protagonist, Clary Fray, is a headstrong teenager that embodies many inspiring traits that women of any age would enjoy!
My favorite book of all time is Their Eyes Were Watching God. It’s a beautiful love story by Zora Neale Hurston set in the early 20th century. In the novel, the protagonist, Janie, goes from a voiceless teenager to a women in control of her destiny. It’s a great read!
The book The Skin I’m In by Sharon G. Flake is a great book for young girls to read. This novel eaches young girls to appreciate the skin your in and don’t think less of yourself.
#GirlBoss is one of the best books I’ve ever read (and I read a lot!) I recommend this book for all young entrepreneurs both female AND male. Sophia is so transparent and really breaks down how she started from the bottom and busted her butt to get where she is today. This book is so inspiring and motivating and I plan to read at least once a year.
This book teaches you how to cope with difficult situations that life may throw at you. The author does a great job of sharing personal stories to illustrate how you can apply certain messages in the book to your own life. This is the most important lesson I’ve learned after reading: If you learn to live with the intention of love and forgiveness, it will drastically change your attitude and improve your relationships with others.
