We’ve all heard the age old saying, “fake it till you make it”, but let’s take it one step further: “Dream It Till You See It!” Before anyone can see you as an Oscar winning actress, you have to put your all into your school play. If you want to be a personal trainer, start helping your friends get fit, and if you want to land your next interview, dress in a way that demands respect!
“She looks sloppy, but she probably still has it all together” said NO ONE EVER! So let’s start taking the right steps towards the future you want, starting with your wardrobe.
Here are some MUST HAVES for business casual.
1) The Blazer
A blazer is the perfect wardrobe staple because it’s so versatile! You can wear it casually with a pair of jeans and a T-shirt or take a professional approach and style it with a nice pair of slacks. My personal favorite is a blazer with a cute flared skirt. You can never go wrong with a solid color blazer, but it’s also nice to mix it up with some patterns like this Forever 21 Printed Floral Blazer.
2) The Ultimate Interview Dress
Every girl entering the work first (or in it) should have one dress that she can always count on for interviews or important meetings. This should be something that is conservative enough for a high strung employer, yet chic enough to feel amazing in. Fit and flare dresses look great on every body type, and wrap dresses are super flattering. Look for something around knee length, and though you should be ware of crazy patterns, don’t be afraid of a solid bright color! After all, a busy employer might be more likely to remember the confident girl in the royal blue dress!
3) The Work Skirt
Next, you’ll want a selection of skirts that are still office appropriate.Take appropriately fitting pencil skirts or midi skirts for example. Forever 21 might be your favorite store, but if you’re out of high school, you might want to steer away from the junior’s section when looking for work attire. Chances are, your skit from Charlotte Russe will be shorter and/or tighter. Brave yourself over to a store like Loft or The Limited for business casual, don’t worry — it won’t turn you into a mindless style zombie. I promise!
Lastly, as cliche is it may seem, you’ve got to believe in yourself! No one will trust that you can handle the job if you don’t even truly believe that you can. See yourself living your dreams everyday, and the rest will follow.
